So you’ve done everything right. You’ve used all the internet marketing tricks, tips, and techniques in your arsenal to gain a large amount of regular traffic to your site, used good SEO for superior page ranking, and your sales or affiliate marketing efforts are paying off with a steady income. Is it time to sit back and rest on your laurels, eagerly raking in money while sipping a drink on the beach?
You should certainly give yourself a pat on the back, but by no means is this the time to quit working. The key now is to reflect on your recent online success and vow to work smarter, not harder.
A stagnant online business will quickly fail; a company that constantly updates itself is bound to continue growing. It’s the perfect time to make some resolutions that enhance your online achievements and to spread your wings a little, too.
Thinking Outside The (Internet) Box
This may be the best time to focus outside of the online world and move into your physical environment. Consider giving back to your community. Join a local business organisation. Become a mentor to someone just starting out as an internet marketer. Teach a class at the library or community college. Attend networking events.
The advantage of these exercises is twofold: while expanding your marketing efforts to the local area you can also pay it forward and reap the benefits of rewarding service.
Reach A New Market
Of course, the people in your community are likely to be new customers, but what else can you do to extend your company’s marketing reach?
One way to gain clientele is to ask for referrals from your expanding list of satisfied customers. Encourage referrals by offering something special for those who give you qualified leads. Remember to follow up promptly on each and every one.
Repeat Your Online Success
Perform a review of all past marketing efforts and determine which resulted in the greatest ROI, then focus on repeating that online success. Use your time wisely by investing it in activities that achieve the biggest gains not only in sales, but in customer satisfaction, reputation, and branding.
Upgrade
Have you been getting by using last year’s software version or a PPC campaign that only uses long-tail keywords? Consider taking your profits and investing them back into the business. Perhaps a website upgrade is in order or the purchase of an accounting software package could help you control finances.
It may also be the time to upgrade your services by adding staff members. If you determine that your time is best spent nurturing relationships with potential clientele, then hire someone else to do everyday maintenance, marketing, or admin tasks. The investment will pay off in the form of increased online sales as well as your valuable time freed up.
Hold Yourself Accountable
Don’t just make a list of resolutions and then toss them into a file cabinet. Schedule tasks that will keep you on target and actually achieve goals. Break them down into daily activities and keep tabs on your progress. For instance, if you decide that delving deeper into social media is an effective way to continue your company’s growth, then institute a goal of posting daily on each social networking site of which you are a member.
Achieving online success is something to be proud of. Don’t stop now! Do some things that are different, focus on techniques proven to achieve positive results, delve into some new areas, and strategise for future growth as well.
Have a most outstanding day.

Great to hear you are still excited and passionate about your online activities Jo, I am glad that I have been part of your inspiration. Keep doing what you are doing and your efforts will be rewarded I am sure. Once they are, it’s just a matter of lather, rinse and repeat
Hi Sean
Although the definition of success is personal for each individual, I do know that the process never ends. Michael Gerber, author of the E-Myth, talks about climbing our metaphorical mountain of success, challenge and achievement. He says that there’s infinite climbing because there’s actually no top to the mountain.
Your blog post is right Sean – there’s always something we can learn, teach, share, pay forward, improve. Especially online. Things change so quickly that the internet marketer who sits around complacently – even after achieving a certain level of online success – is bound to see a stagnating business eventually. If Google is being kept on its toes, then that’s saying something for the rest of us.

Great comment Lina. For most of us, once we reach the top of the particular mountain we are climbing, we always look for a higher one to tackle. I’ll see you up there
Like the mountain analogy Lina. Seeing success as a journey with multiple peaks and not one pinnacle makes the journey exciting and keeps us from becoming complacent. When we’ve reached one peak, such as achieving certain results with an internet marketing strategy, we should aim to either repeat the process or improve our strategy and aim for a higher peak.

Hey Colin, I will see you up there with Lina!

Cool indeed Garrett
. If people new to IM can put in the effort and determination required to get up that first step, the rest of the steps become much easier.
Hi Sean,
I think I will just continue to push forward. I’ve seen way too many people go from rags to riches and back again to ever take my online success for granted. I think that it will always be a work in progress and there will always be more to achieve.
But, I definitely want to give back. I want to help leave the world in a better place than when I came into it. There’s a lot to be made right and much of it requires money.

I look forward to the day that I can say “I have achieved on line success now what?’
I will do my best now to implement all the knwoledge I have learned no matter how much time it takes nor how much work it takes I will see it through to success and keep on keeping at that success level, whatever that will be.
Thank you for these guidelines that I will be constantly referring to.
Hi Elly,
I’m sure that day will come sooner than you think. You just have to hang in there and keep working at it each day. Take all this knowledge that you’ve gained by reading Sean’s blogs and start applying it.
Success will be yours.

This is exactly what you need to do in any business I think. Don’t become complacent once your site is working as no doubt there will be someone come on the market place with bigger and better ideas and your site will become old hat. Once I have achieved online success I really want to be able to help others financially, especially those who aren’t able to help themselves.

Once you have reached a certain level of success it can be very easy to rest and think “that’s it”. Very dangerous!
Once you have achieved online success the Japanese thinking of kai zen (constant improvement) needs to come in place so you stay on top of your competitors long term.
