Exploring An Article Marketing Strategy

Posted by in Article Marketing

Article Marketing StrategyA lot of people talk about article directories as a great resource for internet marketers. You can use these free tools to help you make money either through selling your own products or through selling affiliate products.

There are dozens of article directories and search engines crawl them and index articles on them many times a day. Here’s a potential Article Marketing Strategy for you to use so that you can use article directories to make money:

Step 1: Pick a Niche

Choose a niche market. Choose something you know a bit about, want to learn more about, and that you’ve established is a profitable niche with a product (or products) that you might make a commission from. You could also create your own niche product to sell as well.

Step 2: Get Knowledgeable

Gain plenty of knowledge on your topic. Do keyword research and niche research so you can write a wide array of articles from various angles on that topic.

Step 3: Start Writing Articles

Writing articles that pre-sell a product or that pique interest so that people will click the link in the resource box is important. Valuable articles that are interesting, well-researched (but that don’t reveal TOO much info, otherwise people won’t feel the need to click in order to learn more), provide good SEO value so you can get found in the search engines for desired target key phrases, and that establish you as an expert are going to help you.

Step 4: Submit

Submit your article to an article directory. Don’t forget to write a great resource box that has keywords anchored and pointing to another page. This will help people click to learn more and help you get indexes for those keywords in search engines.

The Link(s)…

The link can’t often be a direct affiliate link when you use article directories. 99% of them will delete your article if it has an affiliate link. You can, however, link to another page that will then lead your prospect to the sales page that will sell the product. There are a lot of different places you can use as landing pages such as: Squidoo lenses, HubPages, your website, your blog, etc.

Step 5: Promote

Promote that article. Link to it on social marketing sites, link to it from your blog, promote the RSS feed for your member account on that article directory.

Some marketers submit to directories weekly as part of their continuing Article Marketing Strategy. Not every click is going to lead to a sale and not every article will pay you but each article that points to your website creates interest for the product you’re promoting, improves SEO for the page you point to, and it establishes you as an expert in whatever industry you’re trying to make money in.

Some articles can go very viral and generate buzz, interest, prospects, and customers for you. There are a lot of article directories and a lot of gurus who teach people how to use them to their maximum advantage. Some sites have high page rank and some have great search engine power.

Consistenly working on your Article Marketing Strategy as a part of your internet marketing program will definitely help you increase your online presence and profits.

  1. Hi Sean,
The 5 steps here are a big help. I needed something like this to get me started and is easy to follow. Reading this article is a reminder on how important it is for internet marketers to be submitting articles to article directories.

I am now more motivated than ever so hopefully soon I will be submitting articles to directories and reaping the benefits.

  2. Hi Sean,

Thanks for the great tips. So far I’ve been using article directories more for their backlink potential than anything else. Mostly because I haven’t been able to create any sales from my articles.

I’ve had a handful of emails asking about the product but no actual sales. After reading your previous post, I think maybe I was using the wrong product. So, I might try my article marketing strategy again and see how I go now that I have a little more knowledge.

  3. Article writing is one of those things that I never dreamed I would have a problem with. And then came all the rules. Submitting an article is not as easy as it sounds. Thanks for these handy tips I can see a bit of research goes a long way.

  4. Hi Sean

Once again I am always attracted to step by step processes and the 5 steps in your article clearly explain article marketing strategies.

I can see how submitting articles to article directories is important to get valuable SEO . I would need to be really focused on my niche product, even sub niche product so that I can raise interest through my articles. The resource box is a great idea too. Actually, everything in this article is brilliant and very useful to help us succeed. Thankyou.

  5. Here we have another angle on affiliate marketing..

If you can write and publish articles to directories this can bring links ,contacts and sales.
Consistency appears the key here. Let`s say an article once a week for the directories and your sites..
There are 5 easy to follow steps in this article..

  6. The key to any article marketing strategy is persistence – not that the other points raised here are irrelevant – they are relevant.

However, submission of articles needs to be 5+ a day to really make an impact – according to Sean Mize – the master of article marketing.

And Ezine.Articles has 98% of the traffic – so why go elsewhere – unless it is to obtain back links.

Fortunately, Ezine requires quality writing and no promos within the main text – so the resource box is critical for promotion and linking.

It is well worth exploring through Ezine to see the scope of the articles submitted and read

  7. It’s amazing how much interest just one article can generate. So exploring article marketing strategies is definitely something very worthwhile.

What I am still struggling with is the “duplicate content” issue. Is it ok to write a post and promote it with a very similar article? Or should the article be same keyword but totally different? And what happens if someone wants to publish my article on their blog – do they get punished for duplicate content??
    .-= Renee´s last blog ..Self Improvement – 25 Self Motivation Quotes =-.

    • Articles can indeed be similar – so long as the text is new. In fact, you often see articles that are variations on the same topic or theme – they just give additional information or a different perspective.

Some article directories do use your articles – but they need to have your permission and include your name and links. So, in effect, they are like quoting you when this occurs!

It is duplicate material when there is no acknowledgment, or you use the same and post more than once, or if someone plagiarises your work. In these cases, they get slapped not you – as there will be date evidence of you having published first.

  8. I must admit I’m getting a bit baffled concerning the idea of the article marketing strategy. What is the difference between the use of an article directory such as Ezineareticles and Suite101 and sites such as Squidoo and HubPages? I’ve had a look at some of them and seem to be missing something as to their actual uses.

  9. Writing and submitting articles on a weekly basis will be on my list of things to do. Having links to your articles for our squidoo lenses is a great idea. I always forget to link my own posts and articles in my own work. (does that make sense?)
.-= Jackie Stenhouse´s last blog ..Anxiety Separation in Children =-.

    • Yes, that makes sense Jackie – I do the same (head hanging down). Internal linking is sound SEO.

If you realy get hooked on article marketing, there are shortcuts and means to help you speed up your output

  10. Article Marketing truly is a powerful strategy to implement Sean.

I have seen that well written articles also gain PR themselves over time. So not only could you have hundreds of links pointing to your chosen page from a high PR domain – the articles in that high PR site could also carry across additional link juice. Now its just a matter of writing the articles 🙂

  11. I am writing for EzineArticles but hadn’t thought of promoting the published articles on social marketing sites. Thank you for the suggestion.
