Choosing Affiliate Products To Market

When an internet marketer is choosing affiliate products to market, there are several things he or she should consider.

Choosing Affiliate Products

Affiliate Product Considerations

1. Is there demand for the product?
2. What’s the potential return on investment?
3. What’s the competition like?

Product Demand

Marketing a product is obviously easier when people want the product. The easier it is to convince people that they would benefit from having it, the better.

Once you have a product people want, it makes your job easier. Then, you need to focus on convincing them to buy through your link. But if the product speaks for itself, that job is going to be easier.

Things to look for when choosing affiliate products include: positive reviews of the product, a no-hassle returns policy to put the buyer’s mind at ease, and a company with great sales copy. Affiliate marketing requires you to be good at communicating with your prospects, but if the product has solid sales copy, your job is going to be easier.

Choosing Affiliate Products With Good ROI

Most people look for high commission affiliate products to market, but you have to think about the potential volume and work involved in marketing high commission products. There are high commission and low commission products out there and deciding which one to sell can be difficult.

If there’s a high volume of sales happening, sometimes the commission rate is lower but it’s often more lucrative for you if you sell a lot of volume at a lower rate than just a unit or two a year at a really high rate.

More profit is always better and it’s important to consider your costs involved in marketing when you look at potential commission earnings as well so carefully weigh your options for the best possible results.

Product Competition

Is everyone and their brother marketing the product you’re considering? Whilst highly popular products can be easier to market than something obscure, you don’t want to be battling with thousands of marketers for the same audience.

It’s important to look at competitiveness, search engine rankings, and keyword research to help you determine whether or not you should begin marketing a highly popular and competitive affiliate product.

Market research will help you figure out the best possible strategy if you do decide to market something that’s really competitive. Some affiliate marketers find great success when they discover a keyword that’s not too competitive, for example.

You might be a marketer that decides to market a few products and you might be someone that starts with a product and a strategy and later finds that it’s not working. What’s definitely important after choosing affiliate products is that you carefully watch results once you start marketing. Measuring results with your efforts will help you see whether things are progressing in the right direction or not.

See you at the top of Google!

    Hi Sean,
To my way of thinking this article highlights the benefits of successful keyword research.

If the competition is high for a popular product – and if I find a keyword that is searched for a lot, but not used much by my competitors than I could benefit from using this keyword or key-phrase.

Is my understanding correct here, Sean?

When I first started looking at affiliate products I was totally overwhelmed with way too many choices. Keyword research is a very important step in the whole process and unfortunately the average person would be totally unaware unless they are learning about internet marketing to begin with. I wonder how many people out there never had any success with affiliate products and never knew why.

    • Sean Rasmussen says:

There are many people who tried affiliate marketing and never had success Helen. This can be due to many reasons; lack of education, focus, action, wrong product etc. ;-)

Product is one thing and the Product Competition is the other. Great marketing tips here. If all products can sell themselves like; coke, milo, coffee etc we won’t be needing these tips but there are other products like noodles which comes in different packages, tastes and so forth that really need marketing tips to get the customers to like them.

Don’t you think the brand also plays a biggest part in marketing? Most people will go for the known brand than an unknown package with the same content.

    Cheers
    Rose

Volume sales will often produce more profit than a high end product with more immediate profit, but lower sales volume. Finding the right product can be really tricky. I’m just now hearing the terms “keyword search” and “search engine rankings”. I’m so glad I am getting into affiliate marketing with your help, Sean. I’d be one of the lost ones, otherwise.

  6. Hi Sean,

I think it’s really important to do your keyword research when choosing affiliate products. You really need to know what the demand is like for a product and how competitive it’s going to be to try and sell it.

Also, I now look at the kind of support that I’m going to be getting from the product creator in terms of helping me market the product. But, I’m still learning how to choose the right product.

Finding the right product for your niche is a very important part of any marketing campaign as I am learning. When I created my first micro-niche website last year I did not really know what market to start with so I decided to try something that I thought would be in popular demand which was running shoes. When it came time to choose a product I went with Amazon because they have a huge range, so people will have more to choose from and I will make a lot of sales right? Well sure I made a few sales which was pretty exciting at first but at the end of the day the commission rate is so low that the site barely paid for itself. I am really loving the free information provided in this blog! : )

Great to hear you made a few sales Jeremy, now to just find a more profitable product and you will be away ;-)

    Hi Sean

There are so many components to consider in internet marketing that having a full education about all aspects as you are giving us Sean is tantamount to being successful. We are all so very fortunate to be able to get into your “slipstream” of knowledge.

More and more I am learning how crucial a good understanding of Keyword research and its usage is to starting any business online.

I am so grateful for all this information Sean because my understanding and perception of internet marketing has widened enormously since being in this competition.

    Thankyou

    Blessings,
    Elly
