Competitive analysis in the world of internet marketing can make a vast difference to the success of your business. Your competitors can teach you a lot.
Your online competitors can teach you what to do, what not to do, they can help you manage your own search engine optimisation and search engine marketing, and can help you keep your finger on the pulse of your industry.
Learn What To Do
You want a unique selling proposition. You want to stand apart from the crowd. But, you can learn from successes of companies that are more advanced than you are. Regardless of what niche market you’re going after, you will probably find a successful company. You can learn a lot about getting successful and marketing effectively by analysing their business model.
Learn What Not To Do
Beyond learning what to do, you can learn from the mistakes your online competitors make. Analyse their layout, look up reviews of their products to see what people complain about, dissect their SEO so you can learn to do what they do – and make yours better.
Industry News
As a business person, it’s important for you to be an expert in your field. Analysing your online competition and the industry in general can help you stay on top of industry news and changes. Don’t only get your info from competition, though. Keeping your knowledge current so you can be a source of breaking news instead of just following suit can help you gain a competitive advantage.
SEO – SEM – SMO
Analyse the keywords and phrases that your competition is ranking for. Figure out how they’re getting those rankings and you can expose holes in their strategy that you can capitalise on and use to help you surpass their rankings. Through analysing someone else’s strategy, you can easily fine-tune and improve your own.
Figure out where they get backlinks from. Check out which words and phrases they’re dominating in the major search engines. Read their ads and check out their landing pages. Check out their Facebook page, their Twitter account, and other social media profiles as well. You can follow their followers, you can emulate some of their methods (without copying / plagiarizing, of course), and learn from mistakes so you can provide more value to your target customers.
No one should rely solely on their competitors to help them succeed, but regularly analysing your toughest online competitors as well as those who are hot on your tail (yes, once you get successful, expect your competition to analyse YOU) if you’re already successful can help you gain or retain your competitive advantage.
Have a most outstanding day.

If you want to make money on the internet, you need to learn about SEO and the best way of doing so is to get SEO advice from industry experts. Search engine optimisation isn’t a cut and dried set of rules and regulations, so be ready for an ongoing learning curve.
Part of succeeding with SEO is the continual learning experience as you put SEO tactics into practice and then measure the impact on your own unique business.
There are many factors to consider, such as: geographical area, online competition, target demographic, how specialized the niche is, and so on. Where you get your SEO advice can make an impact on how well you fare online. Here are some tips:
Tips On Getting SEO Advice
• Start with the basics – Read sites and books that are known as industry experts. A few examples are: SEO Book and SEOmoz. Read old posts and subscribe so you’ll get a chance to get new posts delivered as well. You’ll want info about news and changes so that once you are well versed on SEO best practices, you’ll continue to get news and SEO advice.
• Check out YouTube – You’ll find a number of free online tutorials about SEO for YouTube that show you as well as tell you how to do things. Depending on your learning style, videos may help you grasp concepts and put them into practice more easily.
• Google News – Is a great place to go for the latest news online. Type in some phrases that relate to news about SEO and you’ll get late breaking info that can help you as well as find new news and info sources to bookmark.
• Sign up for newsletters – SEO companies, guru internet marketers, and online learning academies often share info in newsletters about SEO. You can assimilate information this way at your leisure and get to know some experts. As you find yourself gravitating toward a certain learning style, you can even consider purchasing e-books or premium training and internet marketing mentoring services, if necessary.
• Join a training program – Many respected training programs are out there that will help you learn step-by-step how to succeed online with search engine marketing, organic search engine optimisation, and with social media optimisation techniques.
Other Considerations
Let the buyer (or reader) beware, though. Not all advice is good advice. Some information online is dated or is being published by someone who really doesn’t have a very good grasp on SEO. Do look for credible sources of information before revamping your SEO strategy. Remember these things as well:
• Content is king – Regardless of how well your site is optimised, the contents of the site are what can and will help you make money.
• SEO rules can change – Google, Yahoo, and Bing don’t want you to be able to “game” the system. Quality, reputation, SEO and implementation are all important, so your efforts should revolve around learning how to effectively market and be seen as an authority. A diverse strategy is a good idea and providing value to your visitors will help you get bookmarked, help your links get shared, and help you get linked to.
